What are attunements?

If you are familiar with Reiki you know that a Master Reiki practtioner will "attune/initiate" you to the energy system he or she represents.
The Reiki Master will attune your etheric body "aura/subtle bodies" to this new energy/vibratory frequency and once attuned you will be able to work with this energy to heal other people and yourself.
Attunements can be recieved either in person with your Reiki Master or via a Reiki Master using what is known as the distant/remote attunement where the person being attuned does not need to be present to become attuned/initiated into the Reiki system of healing and self development.
 

What should I do in preperation for/during attunement?

The best way to enjoy the sensations of an attunement is to sit down for half an hour to an hour at the time of the attunement, and just relax. Be aware of your thoughts and feelings, and the sensations in your body. See if you can detect any slight changes in your thinking or your body awareness. The most common sensations are very subtle - heat in the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet. Generally the body feels warmer. Some prickling sensations in different body parts either localized or in large areas, will be felt. Don't worry too much about it, and just enjoy the process.

You can also if you wish visualise yourself breathing in white light down through the top of your head "crown chakra" down to your feet, and as you do so think "light" and as you breathe out think "love".

Continue this process prior to and throughout the attunement process, breathing slowly and deeply.

 

Will recieving more attunements/multiple attunements effect any previously recieved attunements e.g Usui Reiki, etc?

No, you decide which kind of healing energy you use at any given time. If you want to heal somebody using Usui Reiki, you will still be able to access that particluar systems healing vibrations/energy.
I would recommend though when working with energy symbols/healing systems that the energies are used seprately unless the systems are intended to work with other Reiki systems,  as combining them in some cases will affect their intended healing purpose/vibration.
If in doubt  finish working with each system before proceeding with the next, in the healing of others and yourself.
